Although the angel tries to bring purity and hope to a polluted world, the ocean is filled with garbage and mess. This contrast between purity and pollution highlights the despair and hopelessness we feel when trying to improve the situation, when our efforts seem insufficient to overcome the extent of the damage. The painting confronts us with the reality of ecological disaster and challenges us to contribute, like the angel pouring a little water from a jug into the ocean, to make big changes with small steps.
