Despite the protection of the angel, the animals floating in the water are hunted by the hand of evil, which symbolizes the element of danger and darkness in the painting. The painting reminds us that the world may not always be as we perceive it. Our efforts for protection and order can be questioned. Reality can deviate from normality into unknown forms, where even what we consider safe can hide unexpected dangers.
