Angels holding bottles of brains are trying to preserve and protect their own thoughts and consciousness. The hand of evil, however, trying to uncork one of the bottles, shows the power of external forces that are trying to gain access to our inner world, influence our thoughts or manipulate our consciousness. The image expresses the struggle between the effort to keep our thoughts and identity safe and the external threats that are trying to control them. The closed bottles symbolize the effort to protect what is important to us, especially our thoughts, ideals and inner world. The motif reveals how fragile and valuable our thoughts are and how easily they can be attacked.
